Educational Objectives:

As a result of attending these sessions, participants should be able to use current clinical recommendations, based on best evidence, to more competently:
  • Evaluate and manage the overweight child and adolescent in the office setting.
  • Identify and manage common pediatric infections.
  • Use mnemonics to aid in efficiencies in patient encounters and office flow.
  • Evaluate and manage the child that is bedwetting.
  • Evaluate and manage the child with voiding dysfunction.
  • Evaluate and manage the child with hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and a thyroid nodule.
  • Recognize and manage common pediatric dermatologic conditions.
  • Use the degree of medical decision making as the basis for the charge for the encounter.
  • Use coding pearls that apply to primary care to correctly capture all revenue.
  • Evaluate and manage the child with hematuria and proteinuria.
  • Implement effective screening and management of an adolescent with type 2 diabetes.
  • Evaluate and manage common pediatric summer illnesses.
  • Diagnose, treat, and refer when necessary the patient presenting with a red eye.
  • Evaluate and manage the child with recurrent urinary tract infections.
  • Use current knowledge regarding the nutritional and environmental factors contributing to vitamin D deficiency to effectively manage vitamin D-deficient infants and adolescents.

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this activity is to enhance physicians' competence in the ACGME/ABMS competency areas. This activity includes an update on the recent advances made in the clinical management of the most common disorders seen in the practice of pediatric medicine.
Target Audience:
This course is designed for pediatricians, other primary care physicians and those interested in pediatrics.
Educational Format:
The format for this course consists of 45-minute lectures, each followed by a 15-minute question and answer period in which participants will also be encouraged to discuss with faculty potential barriers to implementation of new practice strategies. The sessions are designed to facilitate exchange of information and dialogue between presenting faculty and participants.
